Students develop a strategy for a business and translate the strategy into actionable items followed by an implementation plan. Typically students analyze the existing business model and strategic direction, identify strategic issues, suggest alternatives, evaluate alternatives and recommend a way forward. The emphasis is on measuring the immeasurable and translating strategy into quantifiable actions for control purposes. Our students should be able to work with both profit and nonprofit organizations. Alternatively, students can also develop an implementation plan using performance management approaches like The Balanced Scorecard and Strategy mapping.

Students in the Environment and Culture Inquiry program at Lakehead University are prepared to delve into the causes of environmental problems, as well as the ethical, political, social and cultural challenges that they pose to various communities. More so, these students will be able to creatively and critically respond to these complex issues, and assist in developing and evaluating strategies for effective responses to contemporary environmental problems. These students are prepared to do research on local, national or global environmental issues, especially where there is overlap with politics and culture.

Do you have an engineering problem you would like to solve? In this project, students working in teams will explore and analyze numerical method algorithms for modeling and solving engineering problems with a predictable error rate. Topics include numerical calculus, roots, optimization, polynomial interpolation, integration, differentiation, initial value problems, boundary value problems, and the software development of these algorithms. Projects that students can work on include engineering projects that have numerical solution components using MATLAB programming and solvers.

In this project, students working in teams will explore and analyze concepts, methods and techniques for supporting the construction, evolution, and maintenance of software systems, including machine learning systems and programs. Topics include the construction of software components identified and described in design documents; code implementation and reuse; software testing and Software Quality Assurance; methods and techniques to allow a software system to evolve and survive.
