Students in the Environment and Culture Inquiry program at Lakehead University are prepared to delve into the causes of environmental problems, as well as the ethical, political, social and cultural challenges that they pose to various communities. More so, these students will be able to creatively and critically respond to these complex issues, and assist in developing and evaluating strategies for effective responses to contemporary environmental problems.

These students are prepared to do research on local, national or global environmental issues, especially where there is overlap with politics and culture.

Expected outcomes and deliverables
The final project deliverables might include:
  1. A 10-15 minute presentation of key findings and recommendations.
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights, and recommendations.

This is a first year course, so students can be expected to put in 10-15 hours of work.

Project examples

Beginning in September, students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities might include but are not limited to:
  • Creating policy drafts
  • Completing literature reviews
  • Analyzing the role of political processes, social structures and cultural practices in shaping how communities live well within their physical environments
  • Creating strategies for effective responses to contemporary environmental problems
